Kayla has a undeniably unique creative voice. Her colorful illustrations of oddball characters are unsettling and delightful in equal measures. These characters come to life in her animated shorts, including 2024’s “Hell” a story about an existential crisis in a bowl of alphabet soup.

She is currently on a working holiday in Cork, Ireland, but we had a chance to catch up with Kayla while she was in town for the holidays! In our conversation, Kayla told us about how she’s connected with a local artistic community in Cork, in pursuit of new experiences and artistic collaborators, as she continues to broaden her horizons and refine her singular off-kilter style.
